I'm proud to announce that Daniel Glass is the latest Honorary VIP member and addition to our Drummer Cafe community. If you're not familiar with him, Daniel is a wonderful player and educator, and is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the history of drums. I hope that you will all check out The Commandments of Early Rhythm & Blues Drumming which Daniel co-authored with Zoro. You can also see some of my footage Daniel and Zoro's drum history clinic in my report from PASIC 2009. Like many of our resident pros, Daniel has a busy schedule but has committed to pop in from time to time and contribute a few articles. Daniel has already communicated to me that he likes the vibe of the Drummer Cafe and is willing to become another one of our Drummer Cafe " Chef de Partie" ... which is a hip way of saying Pro Expert. Very soon I'll be giving Daniel his own board in the Expert Corner so questions that are directed to him while go directly to him. All of our pros get an email notification from the Drummer Cafe when someone posts on their board. So even if our pros can't be here every day, their going to know when there's a question specifically directed to them. Thank you Daniel for agreeing to be apart of our community. I look forward to growing further with all that you bring to the table.

I see the makings of a dress code coming...my friend DG is one stylish fella! I've known Daniel since he published his first book, The Ultimate History of Rock'n'Roll Drumming: 1948-2000, which is a required textbook for the course I teach on the History of Drumming in American Popular Music at McNally Smith College of Music. We share the same love for the history of our culture's groove, and he's a class act. Welcome Daniel! The Commandments of Early Rhythm & Blues Drumming is a masterwork on the subject and something I'd recommend to drummers of all shades, all hues. There is common ground there for drummers of all directions as reflected through the lens of history. That book was released in mid 09' and won the best educational book award in DRUM! magazine's 2009 readers poll, which is the industry counterpart to the Modern Drummer one that my book was so fortunate to win in 2009. I voted for Daniel & Zoro's book in this year's MD poll, which is still open for a while for the 2010 poll if you'd like to participate: http://www.moderndrummer.com/contest.php?id=800000071If you follow the trades you've already seen Daniel's excellent contributions to both Modern Drummer & DRUM! magazines and it will be wonderful to experience his insights here. Congrats Bart, nicely done!

Hey Everyone! Just want to say thanks to Bart and all the folks here at the Drummer Cafe for your welcome (shout out to my man Dave Stanoch!). I look forward to interacting with all you cafe cats and hopefully exchanging some knowledge, techniques and other tips about our wonderful world of the drums. Bart will be setting me up in an "Expert Corner," so please feel free to pick my brain, especially if you have any questions about classic American drumming styles like swing, early R&B, rockabilly, rock'n'roll, etc. If you want to learn more about what I do as a player and an educator, please feel free to check out the short film "Daniel Glass: An Introduction" http://danielglass.com/videos.htmlTHIS JUST IN: Just confirmed with the guys at Modern Drummer that I will be on the 2010 MODERN DRUMMER FESTIVAL as one of the Master Clinicians. I don't think I need to share what a huge honor this is, and right now my emotions are ping-ponging between stunned, excited and freaked out all once. Alright everyone, drink up that coffee and we'll see you very soon! Daniel Glass

Congratulations Daniel. You weren't kidding when you said that you would know soon; it was within hours of our phone conversation.

Welcome aboard, Daniel! So glad to see you here. I figured this might be up your alley - glad the connection was made.
I've been studying with Daniel for about a year now... the progress made in my playing is huge.
Unfortunately this also means he can see when I'm discussing cymbal alloys and snare drums instead of practicing for the next lesson. (err... off to the pad, right!)

A most generous "welcome aboard" Daniel.
I'm absolutely embarrassed to admit that I'm not even familiar with "The Commandments of Early Rhythm & Blues Drumming" and that the main reason I'm familiar with you is from Royal Crown Revue's "Caught in the Act". I was absolutely blown away by the drumming on that CD. Wow.

Very cool - I am super excited to have Mr. Glass aboard!
I am just into the last third of Commandments of early R&B drumming and it is an amazing book. Very informative. From reading that book I also picked up the book David Stanoch recommended - the Ultimate History of Rock N Roll Drumming.
Also on a side note - I have bee a HUGE RCR fan from way back. Mugsy's Move is still in heavy rotation in my CD que. Love the big band stuff and the revival a decade back - this is "Cherry Poppin Daddies" country up here in Oregon after all!
