Hey all,, time to replace my bass drum heads batter and reso. So wanted to know what you all think about the SK 1 with the Regulator reso head or Evans Emad and the Emad reso. I usually have a Aud D6 mic on my BD so what say you anyone tried both and have a preference over the other?
Thanks

I love the SK II with Regulator reso. I've always heard great things about the SK I head and planned to give it a try on my 24" Tempus kick, but couldn't find it locally on short notice. I'll get one soon enough. The kit I play twice a week has an EMAD batter. It sounds fine, but I prefer the SK heads because I get more tone.

Aquarian all the way.
I like a Super Kick I with a Force II Reso. I used to like Powerstroke 3's, and the Force II is similar. I use a strip of cloth across the reso for muffling. BOOOOOM!

I like the Aquarian SK2 with the ported (4 3/4" hole) Regulator. I have that combo on two of my sets now.
Tune the SK2 just past the wrinkle stage. Tune the Regulator just a tad tighter than that. I think you'll like the results.

No experience with the SK1 but really didn't like the emad. No tone, just a vanilla thud.

I use this combo as well, and it sounds great.

I just put an SKII on my kit. Sounds good, but I think i maybe should have gone with the SKI, I'm told you can get a little more tone and open-ness out of the single ply version.
I switched from a single ply EMAD Coated, which had a nice open punchy tone, especially outdoors.

I'm Aquarian all the way. I have the SK2/Regulator combo on two sets. The SK1/Regulator combo on two sets. Each has their own sound. "Boom", that's what counts to peoples ears. Best heads made for bass drums that I know of.

Hehe...I think Remo has lost it long ago. Nothing new. A good reliable standard, but one must innovate if they want to stay in the game. I remember after the EMAD came out, they made that PowerSonic thing which looks to me like an obvious attempt to copy the EMAD...
I'm an Evans fan, don't get me wrong. I bought the SK2 because I'd heard it enough times to know that it wouldn't let me down. Interested in the Evans EQ heads though. I think I'm gonna switch to G2's on my toms next time around. But if you notice from my signature, I'm running EC2's at the moment. Good stuff, but I'm gonna try and brighten it up a bit next time. Will probably try Aquarians after that, Response II.

Just for that.....EQ3 system. Well, the SKII is good too. But I pretty much only use the Evans EQ3.

I am using them now on all but one kit and the church kit too. EQ3 on my Birch kit. I am using all Evans now and love them. Nutty

Went with the SK 1 and the Regulator Reso. Sounds very warm and open boomy bass!! Love it. Think I will get some Super 2's for my toms,, to go with the studio ring or open super 2's That is the question.

Open Super-2's. That's what I use. The Studio-X ring would make them sound too focused. Unless that's the sound you're going for.
I like my toms open and full sounding, but I like the durability of a 2-ply head.

Well first we'd have to know what kind of music you're into, and what kind of sound you're looking for. Otherwise, all you'll get is opiniated answers.
I recommend the EMADs, I was originally going for the SKII/Regulator pack before the EMADs, but then a guy at GC recommended, so I went for it and was blown away. Very low end and with a pretty big boom. And the rings help to get different sounds you want. Great if you're into a rock/punk/metal type thing... Or just like a punchy sound, EMAD1s are more if you want a more open sound, very similar to the SKII IMHO.
As for the SKII, I've found a liking to them, good low end boom with a slight thud more than a slap, which is why I'm a bit skeptical about it. But I'm a metal type person so that's probably why it doesn't appease me. Though I'm still thinking about grabbing a pair just to see.
So it depends on what sound your looking for, for in the drummer world it's all about personal preferance.
And when I looked online, I saw better ratings for the EMADs than I do with the SKII/SKI.
Good luck
