I want to add some Brazilian drums to my percussion rack or my drum set (why not!). Two main things to considerate: sound (construction, heads, etc.) and mounting hardware. I need the drums to be mounted on stands cradles or legs. So, who offers the best drums for this situation? Please explain your answers with your replies.

I've seen a few surdos w/legs (RMV & Gope). Where can I find these aside from Brazilianpercussion.com?

LP Music Group is now distributing RMV Brazilian instruments in the United States. I believe in Puerto Rico you can get RMV stuff through Tropical Music, which is an LP authorized dealer.

I visit Tropical Music every time I need something and already knew about the LP/RMV joint venture, but I’ve never asked for their instruments, maybe because they don’t have them on display. I’m also interested in the other mayor brands that come from Brazil, as mentioned in the poll.

My main interest is to know if these instruments are prepared for mounting them on stands and, if so, where to find them. I’ve seen surdos with legs, but what about repiniques, timbas, rebolos, etc…

I’m interested (also) in how (and which of) these instruments can be used in non-traditional settings.

I have mounted repiniques on snare drum stands and timbas on djembe stands, and both worked fine for me. Rebolos and tan-tan can be mounted using some drumset tom add on clips.
