Title: Quads!! Post by: TamaDrummer on August 31, 2004, 06:19 PM Last year i had to play Bass drum for marching band. Not too horrible, but not real exciting. this year......
I GOT QUADS!!! Just a little excited. its going well...im not having any problems with the material. i was wondering....ive heard that playing quads helps your set playing as well. Anyone who has experince playing the quads please share any stories, advice etc. here Title: Quads!! It would be kinds cool to wander around the audience with them and get them to join in.
Nothing constructive to offer. Sorry. ::) Title: Quads!! Post by: Jon E on September 01, 2004, 05:13 AM Though quads are (likely to be) set up differently than your kit, you can still gain skill in stick/mallet movement. Also, marching is a great way (IMHO) to aid with one's "internal metronome".
Title: Re:Quads!! Post by: nitro101 on September 06, 2004, 10:07 AM i think it will definitly help your playing. that is one of the reasons im gonna try and get quints in my drumline next year. after playing bass 5 quints should be a nice change.

it does help set playing alot, especially with cool tom fills...I forget the technique, but its when you diddle on two drums with 1 hand, Im thinking its calls a sweep..not sure thouhgh, but I did it on set one day and it was really cool... and an example of better set playing, im better than the snare player, one of them, and he knows more rudiments and stuff, and they are notorious for perfect playing. I would love to do some of that marching band stuff.
Title: Re:Quads!! Post by: Dave Kropf on September 13, 2004, 10:51 PM Playing tenors in a marching band can help with your kit playing in that it can improve your coordination and peripheral vision accuracy.
The main thing about going from drum line to kit is to remember to loosen up. Drum line requires a lot of precision, rigidness, and tension to perform it with flash (especially if you're in a competing band), but the kit is a very organic, naturally flowing instrument. If you put the same attack on a kit that you use on the tenors, then you'll choke the drums and could come out sounding mechanical. Congrats on making quads! |
