should djembe skin be smooth or rough to the touch... or both are fine... ?

A typical djembe head is goatskin, with the hair removed, either by scraping or by using something like Nair.  The head is typically smooth (or smooth side up), although the hair is sometimes left around the edges.  As for thinner or thicker, I prefer thinner heads.  Not as durable, but sounds better.
