Title: PIG LITE!!!!
Post by: Pirate Pig on January 26, 2005, 04:13 PM
Oh man, I just got a 6x14 Pork Pie "pig lite" snare drum, its clear with black hardware. I got it for 200 dollars at guitar center brand new and they threw in a free remo emporer coated head and a warrenty. How sick is that! The thing bangs so fat, i can't wait to let loose and see what this thing can do when its tuned up right. When i got it i sat with the top head off just staring at the perfect bearing edge...ok so i have no life but at least i got a sick snare. Just had to let out all that pent up pork pie love. ;D

They are very fat sounding.  The Emperor will work very well-good freebie!  What wires came w/it?  I have a friend who lets me gig with his Pork Pie like yours, and its really nice.  And a STEAL for 200 bucks!

It's sooo sensitive i can drum roll with my fingers practically but i do get those buzzes from bass drums.

I checked one out the other week and it is very nice. Acrylics are great drums. I love my (non- Pork Pie) acrylic snare. It is nice to see that they are making such a comeback.

Acrylics are making a comeback- funny.  I've noticed how cyclical this industry is.  I talked to a drum builder earlier this week and he's convinced that non wood shells are the next "hot" thing.

You know it's going to be silly when you see ply's of acrylic interweaved with fiberglass or carbon fibre in a "reference" series.

Wow the pig-lite is only 200 bux?!

I thought it was a pretty expensive drum. I got my little squealer for 150, but if i had known the pig-lite was only 200 i woulda picked it up in a heart beat.

Anyway, congrats on the pickup. How does the arylic sound in comparison to say a wood or metal shell? Enjoy the drum, pork-pie makes some killer gear.

I think its more like 250 if they have one at guitar center, its way more if you get one made. I have a llittle squealer too. I'd say the pig lite is closer to wood in sound that metal. I hit a 500 dollar dw 14x5 maple snare right next to the pig lite and tuned up rigth they both sounded quite similar, the piglite is a little less warm but is a fatter sound.
