Title: Paiste or Meinl?
Post by: Anson on February 17, 2005, 04:40 AM
Should I get a 402 Paiste 12" Splash or a AA Meinl (Don't know the category, probably it's Headliner or something, it's about USD80) 18" crash?

I've got a 16" crash, 20" ride, 18" china and a 10" splash on my set~

What do you guys think? I personally think the 12" splash is not bad :)

I'll go with a second crash... But that's just ME !

What do YOU think ? What do YOU need for the music YOU play ? I think that's the real questions...

JMHO.

Go with whatever sounds best to you.  My opinion doesn't matter.

Its really what you personally like the most and need the most. Both are reputable cymbal manufacturers who churn out good products. Good luck with it and above all, enjoy! :)

12" splash vs 18" crash?

Two vastly different critters there.   So its just about which you'd use more.

If you only have 1 crash, and its a 16, I would recommend getting another crash.  Just so you know, a splash and crash arent even close to each other in what their purpose is.  Youll (or whoever listens to you playing) get tired of using a splash as a crash-
as far as pAisTe vs. Meinl, get whatever sounds good to you-

Well, I'd choose both, 'cause I love Paiste as much as Meinl. Both companies make pretty kick ass sounding pieces of metal. But I think that second crash would be far better choice anyway.......... ;D

In my experience, Meinl has the best warranty for cymbals under the sun. BECAUSE THEY NEED IT. 2 Year (Virtually no fault) warranty, but the cymbals are fragile.

You already have a splash, so I'd for sure go for the extra crash. If you play rock, you will definitely need more crashing power than a lone 16 incher can provide. A splash is great for a nice small effect here and there, but your crashes make up the main body of your cymbal arsenal; most medium-sized all-around cymbal setups have several.
