Title: Jimmy Chamberlin Complex Post by: a surfr uc on March 03, 2005, 10:50 AM Has anyone heard this yet? It's Jimmy in a whole different genre. Some of it reminds me of Mahivishnu. There are a couple of "Pumpkin-y" tunes, but there's nothing wrong with that! He has been doing some SERIOUS shedding. I can't believe how his playing has improved. :o The CD is reviewed in this month's MD. Well worth the purchase!!

If you like over the top fusiony type of drumming, this is for you. I have been a fan of his for a long time, so I knew I would like it. But, I think many would be impressed with it.
Title: Jimmy Chamberlin Complex Post by: Andrew on March 04, 2005, 09:50 AM He continues to astonish me with his playing. I saw him with Zwan on their tour... the thing I keep coming back to is how hard he sounds like he's playing, but how very relaxed he appears.
I am enjoying this album. I'd be interested to hear the perspective of someone who is more familiar with the fusion genre, though. Also recommended: The Paul Wertico Trio's Don't Be Scared Anymore (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004W55X/qid=1109955275/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/002-8789332-0907260?v=glance&s=music). I like to call it "atmospheric" in nature. Jimmy's drumming is out front and amazing, but the guitars and other instruments are more atmosphere than anything else. Compared to Steve Smith's "the light beyond" (I can never remember that album name for some reason) which had Stu Hamm and Frank Gambale on bass and guitar respectively, the JCC album is definitely more atmospheric. Whereas Gambale and Hamm shred and show a lot of their talent and virtuosity, the other guys in JCC seem to stay back, blend together, and let Jimmy's drumming set the tone mostly. There aren't many solos, but Jimmy sounds like he solos to me all the time anyway. Just my incoherent 2 cents. Title: Jimmy Chamberlin Complex Post by: ben on March 05, 2005, 06:33 AM I'm very curious about checking JCC out because I really dig his drumming.
I'm not a big fan of Smashing Pumkins and Zwan – I can't stand Billy Corgan's voice – but I do like the drumming. The ending of The Everlasting Gaze is incredible and one of favorite tracks from SP is Rock On, which appears on the 2nd CD of their Best Of {Judas 0} A Collection Of B-Sides and Rarities. The drumming on that one is really wild and I'm blown away every time I listen to it!!! I love the sound of these high toms!
