Title: Ashiko stands! Post by: Tripsleft on April 26, 2005, 07:34 AM I am looking for a sturdy stand for my ashiko and have been unable to find one. I tried musiciansfriend - nothing
I googled and found a couple of wood stands, but nothing that seems workable. Any help here? Title: Ashiko stands! Post by: 563 on April 26, 2005, 10:50 AM Any reason a stand for smaller congas wouldn't work?
Title: Ashiko stands! Post by: Tripsleft on April 26, 2005, 12:56 PM That might work except that I want to add it to my kit (I should have stated this before ;)
I looked around a bit this morning and found a mount at this site: http://www.africantreasures.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=DRUMACC0009 (http://www.africantreasures.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=DRUMACC0009) But it is really tough to tell how the thing works! Title: Ashiko stands! Post by: 563 on April 26, 2005, 04:58 PM I have one of those ... I wouldn't trust it to hold an ashiko honestly. Too big and heavy for it. If the main part were metal, Id trust it more. But it isn't, and has some flex that unnerves me. Its perfect for my thin shelled 8" darbouka, and would be ok on a 12" one as well, but those are thin aluminum shells.
I did a big review of it, but can't find it. You may have better luck. Plus, that price seems high. I think I paid under $30 for mine. Title: Ashiko stands! Post by: marker on April 26, 2005, 09:25 PM LP makes something called a "multi basket stand". I have one. They're a three legged affair with a hexagon shaped opening with rubber grommets to hold the drum. Both the legs and the size of the opening are adjustable, so you can accomodate a lot of different drums. They're around 45 bucks.

I have just received confirmation from Akbar that he's sending my stands! Yipee! I had ordered them about a year ago, but obviously he's been busy with the big changover to Gon Bop/DW, and now the move to Southern CA. The goal is to be able to play the congas with about a 1-2" rise off the floor for seated multi-drum playing with bands. Title: Ashiko stands!
