Title: Gene Calderazzo Post by: smoggrocks on October 10, 2005, 11:55 AM Don't think I've ever run across this drummer's name here, but I have to open myself up to more of his work. He's actually a childhood friend of my boyfriend's, but the only stuff I've heard from him is some stuff with Branford Marsalis and a Berklee jam session with him and my boyfriend. [a very scary & intimidating listening experience, all-around, especially knowing they were so young, and being a 1st-year drummer at the time of listening]
Anyhow, from what I can gather he's appearing with his quartet NYCQ in Nottingham, England at the City Centre there. Info is: Tues 18th October Malt Cross St. James's Street 8pm-11pm Free entrance According to the NOW listing, "Gene's band plays with far too much heat and energy to be picked up by any major label looking for something smooth." which probably explains why we don't hear of him too much!;D More on Gene-Gene the drumming machine here: http://www.beherenow.org.uk/index.php/Exchanges/comments/jazz_gene_calderazzo_nycq/ and here: http://www.torch.uk.net/symbol/cvs/calderg1.html hopefully the links work. they're kinda long. |
