i use 1 hihat, 2 crashes and 1 ride. (and sometimes a splash)
i voted for 4 cymbals  :)

My "standard" set up is:

HH
Crash
Splash
Crash
Ride

It varies for me.  Right now, my setup has:

14" hats
16" crash
8" splash
18" crash
20" ride

...left to right.  That's pretty much the maximum number for me.  Often, I'll go with three (hats, crash, ride), or just hats and a crash/ride.

Depends.   Right now:

14" hats
20" ride
16" or 17" crash
17" or 18" crash
12" splash
18" Swish

my current setup:

14" hi hat
8"   splash
16" crash
18" crash
18" crash
24" ride
14" china

Planning on adding one more splash, crash, and china. Possibly a 12" hats as well.

I use the splash in most of my latin and jazz work, but my scaled down set up just consists of my ride, crash, and hats.

I use 5 cymbals, which is the most common answer.  I combine 4 cymbals on 2 stands, using an extender arm on one and a cymbal stacker on the other.

At home I set up everything I have (8), but for the rare gig I take the hats, ride, and 2 crashes.  The electronic kit at church has the same setup spacially except that the two crashes are dual zone and provides a splash and a china so really it's 6.  ;)

My general set-up is as follows. two sets of 14" hats,the main set,and an aux set. A 20" rid,a 22" ride ( used for gong accents,bell riding,and the occasional riding ) two 12" splashes,8" splash,10" splash with 10" china splash atop it for stax effect,two 12" chinas ( since every wuhan is differen I have two killer sounds ) 16" crash,18" crash and a 9" LP ice bell ( if you wanna count that )

Small kit 4 but I play 8 on the big kit.

in my current set up....I use from left to right ....16" A china low, 14" Quick beat HH, 10" A splash, main crash is 16" A thin, 8" A splash, meduim thin A 17", 20" A Ping Ride, 15" thin A crash, 18"A china high. I use everyone of these cymbals when I play, for those who wonder why I NEED so many...

"Rock" setup:

15" through 18" crashes
8" and 10" splashes

"Jazz" setup:
14" hats
16" crash

It depends on the stage size and which set....I mostly use a 14" hat, 21" ride, 20" ride, 18" crash, 14" fast crash. But when I have room I add a 16" full crash, another 18" crash, and a 12" splash.... These are all Paiste. Some are Signature series, 2000 series, 2001 series. I also use some old Ziljians I've had for many years..... Rock 21, an 18", and 14" hats from my old days. Just yesterday I was thinking about going on another cymbal binge. I'm undecided if I want some "K's" or maybe "Giant Beats".... Anyway, I'm thinking about getting some darker sounding cymbals. Yesterday I spent 2 hours on line listening to cymbals, and am down to 20 choices. And that's just considering Paiste or Ziljian brands.  :-\  I've used enough of other peoples gear to know these are the only brands I'll consider. Unless they want to give them to me for a good testing.....    :D

Anywhere from 1 - 5 really.   Three seems to be the most common (which is what I voted),  two rides and hats.  

In the band I'm actively drumming in I'm currently only using two rides.  No hats.

- 2 large, thinnish rides, which are great for not only riding, but should be crashable

Yeah, I finished my whole cymbal changeover, this is the best set up I have had yet. I just love those Giant Beats, especially the 24", I can't beleive how well it crashes. I feel like I got a 2 for 1 deal on cymbals ;D

Just a note ... I do believe the question was how many you use in your setup, not how many you have.  

I mention this because the number of people that seem to use 8+ seems a bit steep.

You and me like just about the same sounds.  I love the 14" dark crisp hats  but I prefer the sound of the 16, 17, 18" sound formulas over the signatures (for rock).

I have an 18" 2002 novo china that I really like.

Then the 20" sound creation full ride- a bit tricky to play, but not too tough.

And the 8" sound creation splash which is really weird sounding for a splash.  I bought it used with a slight bend in it, but I like it!

And FWIW... the paiste Giant Beats sound INCREDIBLE.

I really covet a set of those things.  Very very nice to my ears!!!!  Kudos to you guys that have them!!!!

i have 8, sort of, and use them all. i did have another crack, but found it uneeded. so my road setup is:

14" AAX stage hats
10" AAX splash
6" Zil bell
16" AAX studiio crash (beautiful!!)
16" AA extreme crash
18" AAX metal x crash
20" AA rock ride
18" wuhan china

i usually mount the 6" bell on my ride upsidedown. the ride is awesome and nice a great bell already, i only do it to get rid of stands/boom arms and make it more compacted.  i used to have a 17" AAX studio crash, but downsized. i am thinking about though adding a 19" wuhan to the left of me (china on right and left...symmetry you know :)

YES!! nice is not the word. The GB's are the nicest cymbals I have ever owned. YOu have to get out and hit a few, the 24" is nothing short of astounding, it crashes almost as good as it rides too.

I just bought a pair of those on New Years Eve....Played them at the gig that night. What a delightful pair of cymbals, but not the kind of cymbal for people that get upset when they mess up. Those hat's will show every mistake.... Great sounding hats.    8)
