Title: Best bongo head for old-school sound
Post by: dannydrumperc on August 24, 2006, 01:07 PM
What kind of hide should I use for that old '70s salsa bongo sound (both macho & hembra)? That sound was quite dry and punchy. Also, is there any synthetic drumheads that resemblance this sound?

Danny,

Try mule skins or cowskins.

Sol Percussion made some really nice bongos using a horse skin Macho (small drum) and a cow skin Hembra (large drum).

Thank you both :)

Another friend also suggested cow (for the hembra). Knew nothing about horse (?).

I'll check Funky Tradition.
