Title: Need Help Finding a Part for Remo Djembe
Post by: Scott on October 03, 2006, 09:07 AM
Hey guys,

I'm trying to find a certain part for a Remo key-tuned Djembe (the djembe itself is a 14" key tuned djembe, model no. DJ-0014).

The part I'm looking for, is one of the hooks/claw hooks that attaches to the hoop/ring that fits over the drum head.  The hook/claw hook is the piece that holds the tension rod at the top.

One of the hooks/claw hooks is bent/damaged and it is affecting the ability to tune the djembe, at that particular tension rod.

I have searched pretty extensively, including music123, who has a pretty good selection of replacement parts, but I'm not having any luck.  I haven't even been able to identify what the actual part is called but the closest thing it resembles is a bass drum T-Rod, that hooks to the bass drum hoop.  Remo's site doesn't even have a diagram or a specs list that identifies this particular piece.

Has anyone ever had to replace one of these or seen any of these on the web?  Does anyone know of an extensive site for replacement parts that might cover Remo Djembes/world percussion?

Thanks,
Scott

I personally, with all that you've done, just call REMO and talk to someone on the phone. I'm not surprized that there's nothing about your part on their website.

IF you can get someone on the phone, that is probably the best and most reliable course of action. And when you call, don't take "no" for an answer.  8)

Thanks, Bart!.

Still no luck, however (this is actually for a friend of mine so I'll have THEM make the call to Remo.   :P).  But this is definitely the strangest thing I've ever encountered before as far as trying to find a replacement part for something.   ???

Another idea is to start calling the Five-Star Drum Shops.

Yet another option, be looking for broken Remo Djembe on eBay and use it for parts.

Just an update here in case anyone ever needs this particular part or needs to contact REMO for a similar reason.

My friend called REMO on Friday, and after getting transferred to parts, got a rep on the line and within about 30 seconds of describing the part that was needed, the rep butted-in with "what's your address?"   :)  REMO said they would ship two of the hooks for free using next day shipping.

So, good REMO experience to report, and also a modern-day example of where picking up the old telephone was the best solution.   ;)

Thanks again, Bart, for the suggestion.   8)

One thing I learned from having my drum shop years ago, its best to start from the top (manufacture) and work your way down. Its funny how we will search and search, looking for some fix to our problem ... but never consider just going straight to the company who made the item in the first place. I don't know if its fear or just believing that the customer service would be so poor that they would never talk to us.

Anyway ... glad it worked out for your friend.
