Title: My first ever conga solo attempt Post by: congaron on October 03, 2006, 10:48 AM Hello everyone! After three years of "playing along" and in a church band, and recently an independent Christian rock band....I've never tried to sol. The bands and venues (especially church) don't really lend themselves to it, because the message simply isn't about me. I always wodered if I could do a solo if I ever needed to for a studio recording or something, so here's my first try ever. I have zero formal training, so if you critique, please be very specific so I will understand what you mean. I am sitting under an overhead condensor mike, congas on carpeted floor. You can hear me breathe...sorry about that. One mike, one take...first try. Please be kind...I will apply constructive criticism to the very best of my limited ability on my next attempt, I promise.

Seems like on a percussion list, more people would respond when someone posts their personal stuff.. Maybe it's "so" personal that people try to tread lightly by not saying anything. Thing is,, after a while when nobody responds, you - the poster - start to feel like people don't like what you're playing. Of course that's not helpful.. We're all here hopefully to support each other positively, so I just had to say something.. ;)
Without any training, and for stream of consciousness flow stuff, your sound was pretty cool! The finger rolls - frame drum style - were nice. Keep on posting clips people because it makes you better to air it out. my 2 pennies.. Dave Title: Re: My first ever conga solo attempt Post by: congaron on October 05, 2006, 11:35 AM Thanks Dave! I'm sure my "style" is unique ...to say the least. I had a world music cd and book I lent to sombody, and I think they took it to egypt and left it, or something. I guess I should try to ask them where it went.
Three guys have offered me videos and one of those is personal instruction via video of himself! Very cool. God bless! -Ron |
