I recently bought a drum set a year and a half ago and recently the snare has been warping. It is on the side that closest to my stomach. I keep my set in the basement and we have a dehumidifier so it can't be from the heat. Could it be just from the use? Should I purchase new skin for the drum? Please give me advice.

Actually, the dehumidifier could be drying out the wood in the drum and causing the warping/cracking. But, that shouldn't really happen if the drum is constructed correctly. Can you describe the warping a little more? What brand of drum is it? Did you buy it new? Most big manufacturers have a 1- or 2-year warranty against manufacturing defects, which this definitely is. I hate to tell you, but you've got a bigger problem than a new drumhead can fix.

I wouldn't dry the air to much.  Wood holds natural moisture. I would think that you may have a problem with the way it was manufactured more than anything, like boomka said.
Did you buy it at a local music store?  If so, I would take it in there and show them.

Is it the drum shell that is warping or is it the drum head that is wrinkling?  What kind of snare is it?

Hmmmm...perhaps a case of loose lugs from a little too much smacky-smacky...

A dehumidifier will only remove the moisture from the air. It won't necessarily control the heat. In fact, in some cases, it can make the area hotter. When I worked in a print shop we had a dry room for freshly coated or washed screens. We kept a fan and a dehumidifier in there and it was very hot, but dry. It didn't warp the wooden frames of the screens though.

Absolutely, I run one out in my garage.  The dehumdifier generates much heat.

I just brought it into The Drum shop and it was just from use. The skin was loose and it could have been tightened or replace I jsut got it replaced because it will last longer. So i got my problem solved thanks for all the suggestions I am glad it wasn't major.

I had a gut feeling that may have been your problem which is why I asked the questions rather than give advice.  I am glad it was not a serious shell problem.
