If any english members (or anyone in england) fancies coming to birmingham on said date to see me and my band play our funk that would be much apprieciated. I would love to come see you, and Brum is just up the road from where I'll be living - BUT - I'm getting married the day before and have a reception on the 29th. I don't think my wife - as supportive as she is of my drumming - would appreciate me taking off for pints and drum-nerding... ;)

This may sound idealistic, but this is what the internet was envisioned to be by the early web-gurus: a place where geographically separated people could come together and create relationships and communities of mutual interest. I haven't even set foot in the UK (not in a while, that is) and already I've made several connections to people in my industry and/or with the same interests. It's fantastic...
