Title: Angles And Dangles: Continued from "Metal" thread in general.
Post by: Nathan on January 31, 2008, 10:33 AM
Now wait a minute guys. This is a bit off topic so I will show this and we will get right back on the thread but who says it is the wrong angle? I wouldn't argue with this guy.
I also got to see him a PASIC. You find that different things work for different people.

Usually, if someone is shaking out their wrists after each song, it means that they are  in pain.  If you're playing in pain, something is wrong.  Ergonomically speaking, your wrist doesn't bend sideways.  Compare that to Ndugu's setup, where his rides are almost vertical, but placed so that he still strikes the cymbal in an up and down motion, and not a side to side motion.

Now, Brann might have just been nervous, and shaking his wrists out was a nervous tic.  Even so, when you are playing fast and hard like that, ergonomics are not something to be ignored.  Especially when you're playing like that every night.

I learned you "shake out" the wrists to loosen up.  He might have still felt tight.

Shake the wrist gently, front to back.  That's the way to do it right.  If you shake them more vigorously that might speed up the loosening up process but you can hurt yourself too.

And I thank you!

My first impression when I read about Dailor shaking his wrists was he was trying to loosen up.  He has very definite reasons for why he has his kit set up the way it is.

I usually stretch a bit and shake mine out before I play but not after every song.  It may just be a nervous habit?

I am going to attempt to get back on topic here. ;D.
I won't do these weird angles but here is another one. This is killer. Look at the angle of this Jimbo's ride? http://drummerworld.com/Videos/AkiraJimbosoloff.html.
I think this drummer is incredible.

Yep.  If he was any more relaxed, hed be asleep!  That dude is so fluid.  Not my style of play but certainly fun to watch.
