Title: Contemporary Drums and Percussion Summer Camp with Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez

This summer, students will have a unique chance to learn the contemporary approach and performing techniques of Pearl Percussion Artists Jose Rosa and Hector "Pocho" Neciosup at the Contemporary Drums and Percussion Summer Camp being held June 5-7, 2008 at the University of Central Florida.

Drummers will also have the opportunity to study with other special Pearl Percussion artist guests, including Grammy Award Winner Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Glen Caruba and Dimas Sanchez

Designed for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels, the Camp will offer daily sessions, small group lessons and Individual instruction opportunities, as well as master class lessons.

Camp organizer and one of Contemporary Latin Music Educators founders Jose Rosa explains, "This is the first time a camp with this level of instruction is available in the Southeast.  We're very excited to welcome such great artists to the Camp and look forward to sharing their experience and ours with the students."

Students will learn a History of Drums, and Latin Percussion Instruments, as well as contemporary techniques on drums, congas, timbales, bongos, multi-percussion, bata drums and other percussion instruments.

Hector "Pocho" Neciosup, the other founder of Contemporary Latin Music Educators, added, "It's an honor to partner with UCF and Pearl Percussion to bring such a diverse and talented group of instructors to the Camp."

Contemporary Latin Music Educators was founded by Jose Rosa and Hector "Pocho" Neciosup. Jose and Hector are authors, educators and professional performers who together offer students more than thirty years of experience teaching and performing with major artists worldwide.

A unique opportunity to study with Pearl Percussion Artists Jose Rosa and Hector "Pocho" Neciosup and learn their contemporary approach, as well as performing techniques on Drums, Congas, Timbales, Bongos, Multi-percussion, Bata Drums and other instruments.

Also, study with special guests and Pearl Percussion Artists: Grammy Award winner Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Glen Caruba and Dimas Sanchez.

All levels are welcome; we will place the student on the appropriate level. Participants will perform in master classes and concerts, and will receive instruction on a variety of percussion subjects including:

* Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced levels
* History of Drums
* History of Latin Percussion Instruments
* Drum Set Lessons: Latin Funk, Fusion, Salsa Patterns, Latin American Rhythms
* Contemporary Conga Techniques - "Beyond The Secret Hand" - La Mano Secreta
* "El Negro's" Approach to Drum-set
* The Contemporary Multi-percussionist - "The approach to Pop Music" by: Glen Caruba
* Afro Peruvian Music, The Cajon and its roots
* Timbales and Hand Drums improvisation
* Afro Cuban Percussion- Bata Drums, Bembe and Folkloric music
* Independence & Transfer Value in Percussion
* Latin - American Percussion - Percussion instruments from: Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Peru, etc

Additional Activities:
* Latin Percussion Ensemble
* Brazilian Percussion
* Drums and Percussion Ensemble
* Evening sessions and much more

Each student will receive:
* Daily sessions with Jose Rosa, Hector Neciosup and Dimas Sanchez

Audition is required; please send us a video tape performing several styles. Please make sure video is NO longer than 5 minutes, please post the video on "YOU TUBE" and send us the link. If no video is received you'll be placed on the beginner's level. On-campus housing will be provided for an additional cost of $100. Meal plans are available for an additional cost as well.
