Title: Stanton Moore Post by: Hannah Ford on February 23, 2008, 02:25 AM Hey Everyone!!
It's 1:30 am and I'm so jacked up I don't think I'm going to be able to sleep at all tonight. I just got home from spending the last 8 hours with Stanton Moore and Galactic!! Stanton dropped me a line earlier in the week and invited me to come down and hang with him and the band AND play the Sound CHECK!! What a great time. I actually got to spend about an hour uninterupted with him discussing styles, sounds and writing music. It was a real treat to get that opportunity to pick his brain. After dinner it was time for the show and I can't even explain how tight the entire band was .....just unbelievable. I'll try to get some pics up within the next day or so....we also shot some video of me playing with them but I haven't seen it yet. Depending on the quality we may try and get some of that up as well. All in all just another chapter in my great life of friends, music and drumming. Tomorrow morning I'm playing at Jazz in the Meadows. It's an awesome Jazz Fest hosted by Rollow Meadows High School annually to raise money for their music program. I go on at 9:30 am with my jazz ensemble. Just before Paul Wertico and his combo....lucky I don't have to follow him!! lol Hey if you haven't heard I'll be live in the VIP Lounge here on Sunday evening at 7pm cst. Make sure to mark it on your calendar! See you there!! From reviews he sounds like a very cool hang. What from Stanton can you take into the rock world?, more finesse maybe?, attitude?, change of grip?. Isnt he playing Gretsch also if i remember right?. I absolutely LOVE it when drummers blow me away. Not that im the modern day Buddy Rich or anything but its a rare treat when i see a drummer that fires me up and pushes my envy button. Inspiration is wonderful!.

I love reading about all the great drummers you are getting to meet. I think that picture of you and Jason Bonham really floored me the most. My ticket source says LZ will be touring in the fall with him after Plant is done with the Allison Kraus thing. I have to work tomorrow until 7pm but I will visit the Chat Room when I get home if you are still there. Great to hear about all of your adventures. Nutty Title: Re: Stanton Moore Post by: Drum4JC (Todd) on February 23, 2008, 06:29 PM OMIGOSH! I'm so excited for you (and jealous as all heck!) Stanton quickly became one of my all time favorite players when I first got turned on to Galactic. I've seen them a few times in concert and have never been disappointed.
Gosh! I'm still just flipping out here! How freakin' cool is it to jam with Galactic and to hang out with Stanton and the gang? I WANT FULL DETAILS! AND LOTS OF PICTURES YOUNG LADY!!!!!!!! *****We're sorry to interupt this post, but we've had to restrain Mr. Drum4JC and send him off to nighty-night******* PS: He says he will join the live chat Sunday night. Inspiration is wonderful!. Hey Paicey, I think you hit the nail on the head when you used the word "inspiration". I met Stanton when we did the 2007 Chicago Drum Show together and although through the rush of things we did not get to hang I knew right away that he was another person to add to my list of great guys. Very down to earth and genuine. His KNOWLEDGE of jazz is incredible. So getting to sit and just talk for an hour on Friday was sweet. Discussing the many different ways he writes and the many different styles of music he loves to play. Again, as a lot of things are at my age, it was very eye opening. I think Stanton is another example of what I've tried to apply to my own playing and understanding of music and drumming and that's being versatile. His feel and ability to switch styles on the fly is amazing. Not to mention the energy he plays with! HOLY COW!!! If you get the opportunity to see him in any venue or genre it's well worth the price of admission. Hannah PS....yes he is a Gretsch artist.l Title: Re: Stanton Moore Post by: Ryno on February 24, 2008, 01:58 PM What from Stanton can you take into the rock world? Paicey, you've got to check out Stanton's playing on one of the recent Corrosion Of Conformity albums. Sorry, I forgot the title of the album, but I'm sure you could find it quickly. Stanton's playing is brilliant, outside of his 'normal' routine, and wicked heavy. The best part... he keeps those Gretsch's open and looooooose. Title: Re: Stanton Moore Post by: Neaty on February 24, 2008, 07:06 PM thats sounds awesome. I have been learing some of stanton moores stuff from one of his books recently. I am a rock drummer but its refreshing to learn something different - take me out of my comfort zone so to speak.
A friend of mine goes to the Royal College of Contemporary Music in London and when i bumped into him before Christmas we got chatting about what sort of stuff we are learning. I explained I was studying some of Stanton Moores work and asked if he had heard of him but it turns out he is being taught by him!! lucky devil! Thanks to all of you that joined our chat in the VIP Lounge this evening....what a great time!!!! Bart asked me to post this link to a video (shot by an amatuer who somehow managed to place his thumb over the camera mic....my Dad,lol). Audio kinda stinks but I think you'll get the idea.....notice Stanton jamming in the background to my right. Hannah http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5322205453123942065 |
