NYC's Interpol has become one of my favourite bands and, aside from great songs and the superb voice of singer Paul Banks, I really dig Sam Fogarino's drumming.

He always plays for the song adding just enough dynamics to make it interesting and different from other rock drumming. I also really like the way he sounds on record (never seen him play live so far).

So, hats off for a job very well done, Mr. Fogarino! This is what rock drumming is all about.

Anyone else a fan?

I've just discovered this band in the last few weeks. Funny that this thread would appear right now.

They are a great band and have a very unique sound. Fogarino's drumming is a big part of it, IMO. He is very deliberate and has a great feel to his playing. I love the way he goes back and forth between playing a groove on the toms, then opening up and moving to the ride, then back to the toms again. Then, out of nowhere, he'll go to a 16th-note pattern on the hi-hat.

Agree with what you say about him always playing to the song. He's very musical in his approach. He's one of those guys that "gets it".

Also love his snare sound on their recordings.  :)

Yes, me too! Especially on Our Love To Admire. It sounds similar to what my 14x6.5 Mapex Black Panther Hammered Phosphor Bronze could do  :D

I'm very impressed by his playing on Pionner To The Falls and what he brings to this excellent song by incorporating tasteful snare rolls. I agree he's a big part of Interpol's sound.

Listening to him also brings me back to liking the sound of ping rides — I believe he's using Paiste cymbals.  ;)
