I can't say for certain, but it seems like she may have copped some of those moves from the Three Stooges.
No no no. It's actually the hoe-down scene from The Urban Cowboy. Incidentally, that's who inspires me. Bud and Sissy from The Urban Cowboy.

The techniques, though they play an important role in the early stage, should not be too restrictive, complex or mechanical. If we cling to them, we will become bound by their limitation. Any technique, however worthy and desirable, becomes a disease when the mind is obsessed with it.

Am I the only one dieing to answer ‘Cave in to this question… Will anyone else get this… I hear ya Nick, I had that song come into my head when I read the title of this topic. In other news, drummers I am really digging at the moment: Abe Laboriel Jr (he looks so cool when he plays) Mike Portnoy (gotta love Mike) Thomas Lang (the 'Machine')

the angry rumblings heard amoung many crowds when my band plays are also pretty inspiring.
you see people tap their feet and nod their heads until bill starts singing. he likes writing things that offend the yuppie-types that for some reason come see us. but people that feel the same as he does, or just don't care, mosh like waves of runaway jackhammers when we play.
and that's just durn cool.

Big list - but the abridged version would be: Nicko McBrain(Maiden) Scott Travis (Priest) Cozy Powell (Everybody) Mikkey Dee (Motorhead/KD) Bill Ward (Sabbath)
That'll do for the main bit of a huge list. There's always little tricks and tips to pick up from drummers, no matter what they play. I never took any notice of our regional politics until I saw our local concellor playing drums in a pub nearby. It was a fairly standard pub-rock style set of covers, but the guy plays lots of really tight little fills and grooves - it was a joy to watch.

Well ... to me it is a bit complicated to explain, but my inspiration comes from my desire to express my self. I'm very introspective and I don't like to hang with people because (most of the time) I find them to be frivolous or stupid. When I play I feel I can be my self without the need to explain it to others. I think most of you can identify yours self with me. Playing give us the freedom to be our self. But there are certain inspirational sources besides my own desire, a lot of great people making great music. Among favorites are: - Dream Theater
- Santana (late 60's - early70's)
- Horacio Hernandez
- Luis Conte
There are lots of others, but those are the ones I really enjoy listening to

I haven't answered this post until now, because I didn't think I had a clear answer. I still don't, but here are some folks that have/do inspire me:
Don Charnock--My 5th-8th grade band director. Let me know music was fun and didn't let me quit even though I was a very scared/shy performer at first!
Any drum corps I see--Chops aspiration!
Bozzio, Rich, Chapin, and all the other big names. Smaller name guys too. Songwriters. Arrangers. -- why doesn't my brain think of that stuff???!!!
My parents--I want to do them proud.

Personally, I have lots of inspirations: Mike Portnoy(I am into the same music he plays, and I also play some of it) John Tempesta(He inspired me to play rimshots ) And believe it or not, I have great respect for everyone on this forum and I look up to everyone. After looking on Bart's and Mr. A's websites, I realized how much better than me they really are. I look up to everyone on this forum, seriously.

Recently I've found some inspiration from non-drumming artists.
Bjork's latest album "Medulla" is an all-vocal album. No drums, piano, guitar, etc... All instrumentation was done via vocal sounds. It was very inspiring to hear how rhythmic the voice can be and has made me rethink some of my own sounds.
Badly Drawn Boy is another one I've been listening to lately. His music is not tied down to genre and because of that, his albums have streached my imagination and given me new insight. I highly recommend his music.

Every drummer, who has solid & energetic pocket. I listen mostly to punk rock and hardcore (although i DO love Bonham ), so there you go......... The biggest inspiration is maybe Josh Freese (from Vandals, Devo, A Perfect Circle...). He's great (and busy !!) recording artist. He doesn't do things flashy, but he always makes it interesting while keeping it simple. And that's what I'm going for.....

Lately, Matt Abts of Govt Mule - I saw him on their DVD Deepest End and he plays absolutely loose and relaxed, like I'm striving to do. He makes it all look easy. And he's got a much lighter touch than you'd expect. I thought the same about Bonham, another inspiration for me whose licks I still use way too often. My right foot in particular wants to play Zeppelin ALL THE TIME.
