Today is the start of Steve Gadd's clinic tour. Luckily, it was in San Antonio, and I am going to school in Austin, so I had the opportunity to go. I read about it about a month ago and called a friend up who is a drummer, who I thought would want to go.

So, I planned everything out. I got off work several weeks ago, he would pick me up at 5:30pm (he has a car, I don't), I reserved 2 spots for us, and had gas money and everything. I spoke to him last week, and he said he would call last night to confirm everything. So, occasionally, I check my messages (no cell phone), and nothing. I call him first thing this morning, and leave a message. I have classes, a job interview, dinner; time comes and it's time to leave, yet I haven't heard from him. I finally get a hold of him and he says he can't go. Not exactly surprised, but rather feared this all day. Frantically, I search Greyhound's website for a bus fare, but the next one would arrive at 8:30pm. Clinic starts at 7pm.

He said he called me last night and left a message, so I checked my voicemail to see if my roommate checked it, and nothing. Bummer.

He plays tomorrow in Dallas, but that is 3 hours away (vs. San Antonio's 1:30 hours). I can't afford that much time on a Tuesday night. So, after twenty years of not doing clinics, I am able to see one of the greatest drummers that has ever lived do a clinic for FREE, and I don't go.

Sympathy, please!

Well ... I must say that I am glad to hear that your disappointment is that you did not get to go ... and NOT that you where disappointed with the Steve Gadd clinic ... which is where I thought you were going with this!  Shocked

I am sorry to hear that you missed the clinic.

I am planning to see Steve Gadd this Thursday here in Nashville, TN. I head out to Dallas on Friday, so when I get back next week I'll report back here. Hopefully I can help relieve a bit of your frustration.

It's unfortunate that your "friend" couldn't have been more thoughtful and contacted you sooner so you could find other means to get to the clinic. Surely he knew how important this was. He must not know who Steve Gadd is.  Cool

I'm hitting the clinic in Chicago (Palatine, actually) this coming Monday.  I'll report back as well - hopefully with a photo or two.

Any other DC members attending this one?
