Just received an e-mail and link from our local arts society that Ralph Peterson and co will be coming to the high school in Yarmouth,Me. to do a benefit concert for the public  Smiley and drum workshop (for school age players only  Sad) in April.

Peterson was the last person hired by Art Blakey as a Messenger and his current band is a Jazz Messengers tribute band. Should be a great show.

We don't get much up here unless one wants to travel to Boston.

Email Ralph. You should be able to hook up a lesson with him while he's in your area.

Ralph Peterson is BAD with a capital BAD, jim. The Fotet recordings are a lotta fun ( there's a happening arrangement of JOHNNY COME LATELY).
He ain't the most subtle cat and he does like to throw down, but really swinging...

Hahaha. You can say that again. A lot of people are put off by his aggressive, bombastic style, but I like it. I took a lesson with him a couple years ago. He plays stuff that sounds like he's throwing the drums down a flight of stairs. I was really surprised to find out that the seemingly random stuff he plays is actually very premeditated and well-practiced. I kind of lumped Ralph and Tain together in that respect, but I've since realized that they're are totally different from each other, even when it sounds like they're playing similar things.
