I currently have 13" K Mastersound hats, a 17" A Med. Thin Crash, a 20" A Ping Ride, 10" A Splash, and a 14" World Percussion china.  Hopefully in the future I can go with some 14" A New Beat hats, (the K's are a little thick compared to the rest of my cymbals.)
Anyhow, what I am looking for is another crash to add to my setup, I have been thinking about either a 16" or 18" Med. Thin Crash, or maybe an A Custom.  Any opinions?
I play some of all styles and my A's are working fine, but now I am going to be playing with a modern rock band, so that is what has me thinking about an A Custom.

Woah woah, you're saying K hats are too thick for an A medium thin crash and a A ping ride? Medium thin crashes are pretty thick man imo, i have 14" k hats and i play paper thin crashes and a k constantinople ride and have never felt my high hats were too thick. I wouldn't think 14" new beats would be any thinner than K hats. But still...you should sell me those hats. How about this I'll trade you a 18" k zildjian medium thin dark crash for those hats.

Try turning your hats upside down, I know for my sabian aa regular hats it gives it a much brighter sound and I actually prefer the sound much better.

Maybe a 16" A Custom- bring your cymbals with you to the drum shop and pick something out that you like and kinda blends with you have (or not)  Grin

I like cymbals very similar in tone with one or two effects cymbals (china and or splash)

I think those mastersounds, even though they're K's, sound "thick" because they have those bent edges.  Mastersounds are loud!  So are Ping Rides.  I think, if you want to get another crash, you might want something a little louder to keep up with your ride and hihats.  I would suggest an 18" crash instead of a 16."  Or maybe A Custom Projection.

Thanks for the opinions.  My hats, crash, and ride all have (I can't remember the word, I call it tarnish) on them, so they have some "hiss" to them, but I am also playing them in my bedroom.  I guess the best thing to do is to take my cymbals (and my buddy who is also a drummer), to the music store, although cymbals are overpriced here.  Oh well, you can't take money with you.

That's what I said, but I've played them since then, and I guess what I should of said, is that they are a bit "clangy", to me anyway.  Or it could be that they are 13"s, or both.

I'm confused.   You're saying the tarnish (patina) on your cymbals is giving them a 'hiss' sound?  How's that?

I've always thought that patina, gives cymbals more "hiss."  Because my cymbals have more of a hiss/sizzle than they did when they were new.

Sample a 17" K Fast Crash, that may be a nice addition to your set up.

As far as patina,  don't really notice any distinct sound difference. I like 'em clean and shiny.

Patina takes years to grow.

You know I wish Zildjian would make some paper thin K's even the K constant crashes are kinda thick. Zildjian really dosn't make too many paper thin crashes. I wouldn't mind getting one of those hybrid crashes those sound great.

I'd really like to see the hybrid's w/o the unlathed part, i think they'd be similar to the sabian hhx's i like so much except with that zildjian sound and feel i dig.
