i caught this on the news late last night.

guess a little snippet of rock 'n roll history is now...history.

i loved j.j.  he was the coolest of all v-jays [followed by nina blackwood]. he never had to prove anything, and always had insight and a solid sense of music history. i dug his unpretentious style, and was happy to see a truer representation of the rock demographic.

rest in peace, bud. ya made a lot of people happy.

Wasn't it "Jackson"?

I've modified the subject of this thread to accurately reflect his name, out of respect.

He was fun to watch. He always seemed like he had a real love for music.

I was lucky (or unlucky) enough to see MTV go on the air for the first time. My older brother knew it was coming on and told me to come check it out. "It might be cool" he said.

We had the channel on and it went from snow (nothing) to their clip of the Apollo rocket.

Then the Buggles came on.

I distinctly remember thinking, "This sucks..."

I was addicted to it for the next ten years.

Now, when I turn it on, I think, "This sucks..."

Re: JJ Johnson- As most old jazzers like me know, JJ Johnson was an all-time great jazz trombone player  Smiley.
