i love any ol' aaron spears 16th note down 'n durty krunk, or a gerald heyward pentacostal shoutmusic free-for-all, but for now, i'll be happy with an older gent by the name of Gadd, Steve Gadd.

Perhaps not really on topic, but I don't think drum grooves are copyrightable.  Tongue

joker, was it you that also posted the black-and-white footage of gadd doing the mozambique in a smaller-scale clinic a while back? i loved that video! i think it might've been the audio quality, but something about the b/w footage had such a deep grooviness about it. this one was good, too, but gadd had that super laid-back, almost aloof vibe, going on in the b/w, and it carried over to the groove.

i really like the attitude he brings to music. would love to see him up-close.

ya know, i thought it was simple, too, until i watched that PASIC clip.  there's definitely something else going on, that i cant even count, and yet, Gadd makes it all the more simple.  just awesome...

What I found from watching those clips, maybe even the pasic clip that made all the difference in the world. I found that he accents heavily on the first two left hand notes. I tried it and it made me love the groove 50 times more. My teacher also had me accent with my left hand on the last left hand stroke and it sounds much better. Before I was accenting on the 2nd to last left hand stroke and it just didn't sound right. I'll be perfectly honest mozimbique HAS made me a better drummer. It's help my 4 way cordination, taught me alot about rythem and dynamics and shown my weaknesses. I think its a very underrated groove.
