Actually I don't think we should be judging any drummer. Instead, I prefer constructive comments that can help us improve. I also like to hear everyone's perspective about how a drummer should be performing.

I felt bad that I had ever critisized other drummers before, but I made it a point to stop. Every drummer has their way of playing and I believe.....that we all should be playing naturally. (That's why we are humans, not electronic programed drum tracks.)

...and I will leave if the drummer looks like he has no idea what he's doing, I don't care if that sounds stupid.

You say this, yet under your avatar you say that "there's nobody you can't learn something from".

Hmmm...

In other posts, you mention that you've only been playing a few months now.  It's all starting to make sense now.  Roll Eyes

I would not judge a drummer solely on the manner he handles his instrument during quiet sections of the song or between song/sets.  It is something that should always be considered and is a little extra icing on the cake.

it is, is it? lol, I can be pretty confusing. I blame the bipolar disorder, but I suppose it can't be my out for every stupid thing I say at 2 in the morning.  Smiley

My God. Between this and the Scenesters thread, I honestly think my brain is shrinking. I definitely got dumber reading them.

Judging drummers on their grip? Wow, next let's evaluate which color drum sounds better.

Me, I judge drummers on how they pronounce Paiste and spell Sonor.

1. that actually really hurt my feelings, but I was having a really bad day so it was probably just me being hypersensitive

2. I actually believe we've seen the "which color sounds better" rant on a few threads  Tongue (purely tongue-in-cheek, though)

hm, i think that some drummers are not really drummers and they do just hit things, mainly because they have been playing for years and have had lessons and yet they still have no sence of feeling for the drums. however i dont judge drummers by what equipment they have or by how they say makes of equipment i myself call them all wrong ways. I think we should always be happy to help and encourage other drummers who may not be as good as us or do things which we dont do, and help them to become better drummers and they help us to do the same, for instance i talk my drum teacher how to do this weird bounce on the hi hat which he couldnt do, even though i wasnt as good as him he still realised that i could teach him somethings too.
thats what i think anyway

that actually really hurt my feelings

I'm sure it was directed at the thread as a whole and not particularly you.
Although I have to say your definitive sounding statement about drummers who play with matched grip only being interested in 'the money' struck me as being unreasonable at best and at worst quite crazy.
I could have had my feelings hurt.
I play with matched grip. I took lessons from age 11 and spent 4 years at music school. I've been professional for 25 years.
If you don't want your feelings hurt, I suggest you get a bit more experience around serious drummers before making such sweeping and negative statements.
Oh....and I probably leave my snares on all the time too.  Tongue

I had always been under the impression that anybody who took lessons was made to play traditional. But, sorry about the generalization -- it was stupid. I take it back.

Yeah, that was wrong.

Well there you go, get some lessons.  It's good to know both traditional and Matched grip, not a requirement though.
