I'd still like to know who played on Barney Miller. That was a hip groove, and not at all a typical hihat pattern.
A shot in the dark---John Guerin. The snare and the groove in general sounds Guerin-ish; I get this from its similarity to Joni Mitchell's "Help Me", as well as his playing on a Carol Kaye CD I got with an order (Bass Performances). Incidentally, that's fairly much Kaye's sound and style, though it's not her; I forget who at the moment.
