I've been watching a lot of the Gospel Chops and Shred Sessionz videos on You Tube lately.

I enjoyed the playing at the 2006 Modern Drummer Festival.  But IMHO, the playing that I've been seeing on some of the Shred Sessions videos seems like a lot of overplaying for that type of music.  I feel awkward criticizing some of the players because they have endorsements, play sold out shows, etc., but a lot of it just seems like a contest of "strength".

Maybe that's the selling point?

Opinions? Is it just me?

That would be my guess.
No need to criticise the players. They are obviously entertaining.........someone.
It's not my cup of tea, nor what I really think drumming is about, but as a spectacle and as a bit of fun for people into shredding? Why not?
And you don't have to appreciate a drummer to understand why they might endorse equipment. From what I saw they could all play extremely well.

All those guys are very good, but I get bored watching a lot of the same stuff over and over and over. And some of their explanations of what they're playing aren't always technically correct. (A "4 over 3" polyrhythm is NOT 4 strokes followed by 3 strokes ... sorry, that's not what it is. You're just playing a 7-stroke lick.)

Then again, Thomas Pridgen is very much in the Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Name Your Clinician King Here kind of player. I could watch him all day. He's the next generation's superstar, I think. Is he in Vol. 2? I'd buy it just for that.

I like TP too but I don't think he's on Volume 2.
