i have a yamaha single braced i think small or medium boom stand. i love those stands they work very well. my only problem now is the stand that i have my 16" crash on is making rattling noises when i hit it. i am not a heavy hitter. i tighten everything, and i think the problem is in the legs, the legs are loose, does anyone knows what kind of insturment u need to tighten them, because u cant use a screw driver, drum key, or a hexscrew. i will attach a pic later of it.
thanks.

i had a rattle in my light stand and it was actually the top tube rattling against the inside of the bottom tube.  id pull out the top tube (or two if its a 3 section) and put one little piece of electrical tape around the bottom.  then gently put it back together.  see if that gets it.

I've noticed sometimes that every section of a cymbal stand needs to be extended just a little bit, so when I'm setting up I'll extend each section an inch or so.

See if it's in one of the rivets...get a punch and put some more bend in the back side.

He means most stands are put together with tiny circular rivets instead of hex screws because it's a faster and cheaper production technique.

If you take a metal punch and a hammer you can sometimes tighten the rivet with a smack and stop the looseness and vibration. YMMV
