I just found out about this today ... George Grantham, the original drummer for Poco collapsed after apparently having a stroke during a performance last Friday (7/30).

More up-to-date info can probably be found here:  http://www.poconut.com/navbar2.html

I've been meaning to mention this drummer for some time ... I recently picked their second album, "Poco", and was quite impressed with the drumming, especially on the side-long medley "Nobody's Fool/El Tonto de Nadie, Regresa".  There's some funk, some jazz, some outrageous shuffles happenin' here.

That's some music that I really didn't listen to back then, but sounds very refreshing now.

My best hopes and prayers go out to him and his family.

I am sorry to hear this. Have to agree, that boy could play and you don't hear his name mentioned often.

I hope he recovers quickly.

this is breaking my heart. i thought i was the only fan of george; been a fan since "pickin' up the pieces". very solid yet innovative, NICE pocket. nice groove on "and settlin' down" and "a good feeling to know", and "hurry up",poppin' drum solo on "drivin' wheel". "nobody's fool/el tonto de nadie, regressa"later turned up as an inspiration for "angry eyes" by loggins and messina. he was also an exceptional harmony vocalist. i had a stroke in '01, so i feel this one deep.

Some times it takes some thing like this to open our eyes regarding a fellow musician. It's a shame, but hopefully he will have a speedy recovery.Best wishes go out to George.
