I'm attempting to learn how to play the djembe, and I thought it would be helpful to listen to some songs with djembes in them...so that I know more on how to play djembe with music. Does anyone know of any audio clips I could listen to online?

I did a search at amazon for "djembe" and found these 3 cds, all of which have sound samples of every track:

As far as djembes with accompanying instruments other than percussion, if I recall correctly, the System of a Down cd <"Toxicity"> has a ghost track with Djembes in it. Grin I think Mickey Hart's stuff, like "Planet Drum"  also has some djembe grooves with other instrumentation, but mostly percussion.  Oh, I know, how about that band  "Rusted Root"?  I think I remember them having djembes and other instruments.  I actually wrote a song that implements some djembe parts with guitars/bass,  but I can't record that til after I recover from my carpal tunnel woes.... There's a song on Sheryl Crow's latest CD (think so) that stated with djembe....

Also check out Ben Harper DVD Live at the Hollywood Bowl. The percussionist does a very interesting and entertaining solo in reggae like context. One of my favorite DVDs.

The Ben Harper song 'Burn One Down' is the first song that comes to mind when I think of Djembe in pop music.  As long as you don't mind the lyrical content*, its a cool example of what you can do.  I think its on his Fight for your Mind album, but I can't remember.

*it's weird, I have seen Ben Harper several times live, and there is always a large contingency of, for lack of a better description, hippies and/or frat guys yelling for him to play this song, because its about smoking ganja.  But it is my understanding that Ben is a very sober vegetarian healthy kind of guy that never touches the stuff (i am sure he did in his past).  I wonder if it just gets old, you know, pandering to the pot heads, or if he really likes the song as a song anyways.  Ok, enuff side note.
