I have a glockenspiel or the bells as some poeple call it, and I want toknow what the proper sticks to use or can I use drum sticks, if I use drum sticks will it hurt the glockenspiel at all

You CAN use drumsticks on it--it won't hurt it, BUT you won't be getting the "proper" sound from the instrument.  Bells are best played with mallets--anything from soft rubber to brass--dependent on the sound you are looking for.  Wrapped mallets are generally reserved for marimba and vibe playing.

Go for the plastic ball models.  Musser (for one) makes a variety that would work well: M1, M5 and M24.  They also make a brass ball mallets, the M14.  It gives an exceptionally bright sound, but I've seen those flatten over time, and they could possibly damage some bell sets.

You can get "real" hard plastic bell mallets from Weiss for $5.95 a pair :

If you want something a little more professional, look around their site.
