what exactly are memory locks?

I have heard you guys talking about this, and I was wondering what they are. Huh

I kinda feel bad because you guys have to explain something so simple. Sorry Embarrassed

There are various kinds of memory locks ... some go on cymbal, snare and hihat stands, while others go on rack systems.

The purpose of memory locks is to preserve the desired position of a stand and/or keep it from slipping. This is useful when you are tearing down your gear and setting up again. You can position your stands exactly as you like them because the memory lock marks the exact height.

More simply, a memory lock is just a metal ring that is tightened around a section of a stand or clamp to mark and hold the position of your choosing.

in addition....most memory locks have a little tab on them. The purpose of this is that many rack clamps have a little notch (or two) which this tab fits into. This way as you turn the memory lock or the device/clamp that goes against the lock..it will fit into place in a certain position.
