since a 10 minute search yielded no such luck, here goes.

Usually when I need new snares, I go to the local music shop and buy whatever they hand me.  However, through a few different reading sources, I have since learned that different size snares are available.  My question is this...   what is the difference in sound?

Snare wires can make a big difference. I find that 42-strand snares improve the sound of all my drums significantly.

Our own James Walker has put together a very detailed look at different makes and models of snares - check it out HERE.

I just found out most of the recordings I'm on were actually played by Bernard Purdie.
