A man and his cymbalta

As some of you know I am in a community concert band that came into some money through a donation.
The board decided to spend the bulk of it on percussion equipment so that we wouldn't have to borrow it from schools.
We have received just about everything we've ordered but for some reason the drumset has been a long time coming.
We got a Ludwig set a few months ago but it had some manufacturing and maybe shipping problems and we sent it back.
See thread http://community.drummercafe.com/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=10774;start=msg118750#msg118750

Since then we have waited for the replacement set which was going to be a Pearl set. Well, because it was taking so long to get the Pearl set we went with a Yamaha Stage Advantage Nouveau set that was already in stock.
The first thing I noticed about the Yam SCAN was it has the new tension rod system that has the lugs that come off when the tension rods are loosened. I have never seen a great deal of convenience with that feature but, hey, I'm willing to give it a try. The next thing I noticed was that one of the tension rods on the bass drum would not tighten. It just stayed loose no matter how much I turned it. Then I realized the removeable lug was made of black plastic and the threads had already stripped out! The part of the drum that is under constant tension is plastic. There is no imbedded nut that has the threads that hold the rod in place, those are plastic too.
So now the director is going to  contact the store to get a replacement part.
I'm guessing this will be a constant process, switching out the stripped plastic lugs on these drums.  Angry

Any of you have these drums and not experienced this problem?

Anybody think I've libeled Yamaha?  Wink

I guess no one has purchased this set.
I would have to recommend against it because of the plastic parts.
It would probably cost a pretty penny to buy the metal versions of these. Sad

I have no experience with that particular kit. I am just dissapointed to hear that Yamaha would pull something like that. Next to Sonor, Yamaha has always my favorite drum manufacturer.
