If you can find a copy of "Tribute to Jeff (Porcaro)" I would highly recommend it. Lot's of monster drummers and different styles. Bernard Purdie (???last name spelling, correct me if I'm wrong) plays on one of the tracks and he just nails this shuffle pattern, deeeeep pocket. It's a good recording to practice with.
Could not believe it, but saw it on Walmart.com of all places last night for $13.98. Great cd..!

Awsome! Man i like to jam out to just about any Rush (who doesnt, eh?) and i play LOTS of primus and Zepplin in my head, and for simpler stuff I usually think of STP and Bush songs. I'm still a child of the early 90's, what can i say?

Dead, String Cheese, and lately The Refreshments. I like anything that you can just get lost in and jam. I don't like to practice "perfection", I'd rather practice feel.

A buddy of mine saw him at NAMM this year and Purdie was playing with a trio. All he had was his brushes and a snare. He's just too cool!

YellowJackets for stuff in odd times, Chick for feel and complexity, TOP for funk chops, and I relax with stuff like Dave Mathews, McCoy Tyner, and still a Love Supreme which drives me crazy!

Back in the day, it wasn't so much a song as a album, I still have it, The Generation Gap - side two - Woman of Mine, Hard Times, Strange Shadows, Fools Luck, and On the Run.

Some of my faves to practice to are as follows:
Judas Priest - Heading Out To The Highway (not an exciting song drumwise, but it gets the muscles moving) Rush - Subdivisions / YYZ / Time Stand Still (OK...@$%# near everything) Dream Theater - Overture 1928 Outfield - Your Love (Cheesy but fun. Love that china!)

I warm up with the "Milk Cow Blues" a lot. Usually practice time is true practice and not jammin with a CD.

No one will believe it's the "Blues" if you wear a suit, 'less you happen to be an old person, and you slept in it last night!
