I use 7As. I find that since they are light, they are easier to play with. Also, the taper is shorter, so they are more durable than you would think, IMVHO...

I have at least one pair of all of the above, and I like them all for different things. The 7A's are whippy, fast, and light, but lack punch and power compared to the 2B's, for example.

I'm using promarks and vic firths right now for funk and hiphop i always use 7a's for punk, rock, metal, hardcore and anything generally heavy I use 5bs or 5as. it kinda hurts my hands to go to and from sizes but 7a's just won't hold up. I'm tryingg to get down to using 7as and 5as exclusivley. I'm not sure which brand i like, they both have htier perks.

I've been using Zildjian Z4A wood tip for about 10 yrs now. They're slightly longer than a 5A, which is good for me b/c I'm short and have less of a reach than some, and kits usually have a maximum amt of distance they will move in towards you.
They're pretty light and the tip isn't obnoxiously large, which makes them pretty versitile for different styles, but the lack of much of a taper means they can take a beating on the hihats without snapping the tips off.

All of the above, and more.  I like variety.

The 7A drumsticks I have are possessing of a long taper.

I used 7A's for alot of years, now I use the 5A's for more punch. Now and then I go back to the 7A's for lite jazz or Blues, but mainly stay with the heavier 5A's. I'm using Vater at the present time.

I usually use Regal Tip 5As, Regal Tip 7As for jazz, and
Regal Tip Rocks for heavier music. I also like to play with brushes alot, and even hard felt timpani mallets.

I use 1A  or 5Al which are both similar to 5A but longer in length. Great for my short arms. I like the balance point and power i can get with these without going to 2B.

I always use hickory, nylon tipped.

Is there a point to the poll,. i.e most used stick, whatever?

for 2 bands i am in i use the steve gadd's, or sometimes vater studio's.

for another 2 bands i use 5A's.

when recording i might use whatever is going to give me the ride cymbal sound i want, but working within a weight range i like for the playing feel.

Until very recently, I used Pro Mark 5b wood tips.  I liked the weight in my hands, and my grip was very comfortable.  I dug the taper to the tip, and the beefy tip as well.  But, as I get older (44 later this month), I feel the physical toll of the weight of those sticks.  I began to get tired after an hr. of practice, or a 2 set evening.  And the tips would get dinged every once in awhile, and mess up my coated heads if I didnt retire them.

So off to the drum shop I went, and after going thru a VERY well stocked stick wall, I selected Vic Firth 5A nylon tip sticks that I have been enjoying lately.  They sit in the right spot in my hands, are the same diameter and length, and the nylon tip gives more definition on my ride cymbal.  The area just below the tip is a bit thinner, but I havnt busted a tip yet.  The weight was weird at first, but that could be expected after using the same type and make of lumber for 30 years.  Another added benefit is I seem to be able to play a bit faster due to the lighter weight, but the biggest benefit Ive noticed is more detailed stick work in general.  So I guess change is a good thing.  Oh, I chose Vic Firth because they were out of P.M. 5A nylon tips!!!!!

I use 5B for general playing.  For lighter playing I use a 5A or 7A, usually Vic Firth.

I played last night in a venue that was a bit drafty and they had the heat cranked up (Cafe Brauer, in Lincoln Park, for those of you familiar with Chicago.)  Anyhoo, the air in the room was very dry and I was having trouble getting a good grip on the sticks.  I ended up using Regal Tips of the sizes stated above because their lacquer finish makes the sticks less likely to slip in my hands.

I recently picked up a pair of Vater "Los Angeles - 5A" wood-tipped hickory sticks, and I've really taken to them.  The weight and balance is great, and they're a perfect match for my ride cymbal.

I really like the pro-mark Neil Peart 30th anniversary sticks. I picked some up just for fun and ended up really, really liking them. Now, I can't put them down!
