Boricua aunque naciera en la luna!

I don't have enough spare time for taking lessons, so I have relayed this aspect of my musical development in instructional videos. There are 2 that had became my favorites and those are Luis Conte's Studio Percussionist and his Live at PAS videos. He is my favorite all-around percussionist because of his great technique and versatility. There’s a lot of cane to chew on both videos.

What about you? Which is/are your favorite video(s)?

Don't know how many people would appreciate the raw folkloric Cuban, but for me it's definitely Rumbon Tropical put out by Boogalu productions at http:www.boogalu.com.
Second favorite would be Traveling Through Time with Giovanni Hidalgo and Horacio Hernandez.
You guys would all like that one for sure. An Octopus on kit and a monster on conga.

For those of you who dig samba this might interest you...

"In the Heart of the Bateria" DVD by Jean Christophe Jacquin. He covers most of the instruments in the bateria with excellent explanations and demonstrations. The DVD also has pretty rare footage of technical rehearsals in the schools quadras and even the Artclelsior drum factory. If you've visited the samba scence in Rio this will bring back your fondest memories! If you've never been exposed to this stuff before, it's a great primer. A book with history and notation is included.

No... I don't get commission... I just really love this DVD!

Cheers,
John

Luis Conte ... he is my favorite all-around percussionist because of his great technique and versatility.

Being that Luis is no longer with Latin Percussion, but now with Meinl, you can guess why we haven't seen more videos from him. However, when I last spoke with him, he said he has some new things in the works ... so keep your eyes out! Luis is a great musician, and a great human being.

Ohh, sorry for not mentioning Bart's video. Embarrassed

He did an excelent work explaining me some styles I was interested in. Now I'm using the video to explain those styles to the guys auditioning to the band. I highly recommend him. If you have any question, El Barto is the man. Wink

I just got my copy of Luis Conte's Studio Percussionist DVD and watched about 2/3 of it at lunch - got back really late from lunch.  ;-)

I don't even know where to begin praising this video - my head is spinning from just seeing all the stuff I hope to learn from this!

This is a MUST-HAVE video for all percussionists!   Whatever you pay for lessons; or if you don't ever take any lessons; I paid less than $20 including shipping and this thing is worth at least 10 lessons!

Thanks so much for the recommendation!

Now, I guess I better get Bart's video, too.  Wink

It is a great video, isn't it? Now you have watch his Live at PAS.

LP has a lot of good videos.

Another good DVD is the Just another day at the park from Karl Perazzo and Raul Rekow, featuring Horacio "El Negro" Hernández & Edwin Bonilla (Gloria Estefan) - Shocked.

I haven't seen yet the Gio/Negro DVD. Every body says it is the most amazing thing.

Any one else? I would like to know about other good video-lessons.
