I use traditional grip. When I strike the drum, I rotate my wrist and open my fingers. All's well. It's worked for me for years. Now I see the articles about how to use fingers in making strokes. Do people use their fingers for this? If I tighten my fingers a bit and use the ring and middle finger to make the stroke by pushing the stick out, it is really really awkward.
I don't get it. How do you use your fingers for the left hand... or do you you??

Okay. I just watched the Wessell educational video at the Vic Firth site. He said to use the thumb and first finger as basically a controlled fulcrum. Looks familiar to me! Whew. I think I'm in the ball park. Sorry for the extra post. Still, if there are other tips, I'd be glad to hear 'em!
