i jus got my a custom projection 14" hats yesterday (didnt try before buying =.=).  they sound a bit metallicy and the "chick" sound isnt clean at all.   i found out they dont lie completely flat on a flat surface.  there is about 1-2 millimeters of unevenness for each hat.  can 2 mm of unevenness really change their sound that much?

From my personal experience, I believe when they ARE slightly uneven they produce the best sound.  When they are perfectly lined up, you seem to get an "air" sound.

The bottom line is, whether the felt on the bottom wears out, or the hi-hat rod is slightly bent (which most are) your hi-hats will always be uneven.

In fact, I like mine a little uneven both vertically and horizontally, so I use the little adjuster on the bottom hat and tilt the bottom cymbal slightly.  For me, it gives really good results.

i mean when i lay them down flat on a flat hard surface the edges are about 2 mm off the ground so i guess u can call it a little bent.

Oh the cymbals are uneven?  Sorry I misunderstood you.  That is not right.  The hats should be perfectly flat.

They are under warranty for 1 year.  Call Zildjian.
