I've heard that keeping your wallet in your back pocket can lead to back problems in some people since it means you're always sitting on an uneven surface. It sounds like a wife's tale to me, but I thought I'd ask anyway if anybody's ever heard of this being an actual problem. Does anybody know for sure one way or the other?

I had a friend who was having back problems and the doctor told him to start carrying his wallet on the other side (and get rid of some of the CRAP that was in it).

Back-ache cured.

I carry the bare minimum in my wallet (and for all you muggers out there, I never carry cash! Grin)

Not a wive's tale.  I spend a lot of time driving for my job, and it's a meidcal fact.  I switched to front pocket wallet and it's been great.

Not that I've had back problems becuase of carrying a wallet in my back pocket, but it was uncomfortable.  That was enough for me to change to carrying it in my jacket whenever possible.

When I'm playing, I'll usually take my wallet out of my back pocket and also take off my wrist watch.  For some reason, the watch really bugs me when I'm playing.

A while back I had a herniated disk in my lower back and if I sat with my wallet in my back pocket, it aggrivated it a whole lot. Ive since had surgery to remove 40% of the bad disk, and Im not taking any chances by sitting on my wallet.

YES! It's true.

That's why I've used a money clip for almost 2 decades. The trouble with that, however, is that I never have any money, so the clip just rattles against the coins and car keys in my pocket. This can be very distracting ... especially in the recording studio. So, if you play music for a living AND want to reduce spine and back troubles caused by wallets ... be sure to remove the money clip before you sit down to play.  Wink

FYI ... if you have a wallet the size of George Costanza's ... switching to a money clip probably won't do you much good now ... it's too late.  Grin  Wink

 Huh  what are those?

just kidding

I have a small wallet, just big enough for those few cards, and I keep it in the front pants pocket ... but usually carry it in a jacket pocket ... moving it to my stickbag when I play.

You really only need your Drivers License and one credit card ... and that's not very thick.  Wink

Dunno know about that one!  I rarely carry cash, only carry a d/l and a c.c. or 2.  But wallet butt, or drivers butt theory makes sense to me.....

Thanks Bart, reading about GC's wallet put some laughter in my crappy day! Boy, I just can't wait 'till they release the next Seinfeld DVDs! I'm a huge fan... had almost all of their episodes taped on VHS.

I don't even carry a wallet anymore.  There was just too much junk in there I was carrying around for no real good reason.  Now it's driver's license, 1 credit card, debit/check card, and cash in the front pocket.

Carrying a wallet can lead to serious butt dents.

Just the first thing to float to the top of my awareness.  I carry a wallet in my back pocket.  I don't even notice it, even though it is pretty thick.  Not with money or anything, just scraps of paper that looked interesting.

Wallet in back pocket is uncomfortable, and it looks bad. It's also easy for pickpockets to lift it out of there (well, easier than from a front pocket anyway)

I have a card holder (basically a slim metal case) for all my cards, and I carry cash in my pocket. I unload coins when I'm home (goes into a savings account I share with the missis), so I mostly carry notes around. Great system
