GP?

I'm thinking of buying a GP conga set at a pawn shop. they are asking 200 dollars for it. I'm not sure about the brand or if the price is suitable. Do you know anything about GP?

I bought a low end conga set once, and traded it off. Got better ones. Congas are like every other drum out there, you get whatyou pay for -- fit, finish, materials, etc.

Not heavy into hand percussion and just want to try it out, sure, why not. Think you will want to keep them forever, buy better to start cause you won;t be happy and it won't take you long to figure it out either...

hmmmm....I'm not sure that you can't start off better for $200. I only paid $125 for my first set of fiberglass Toca with a stand. I kept them about 4 months before selling them for what I had in them and trading up.

I don't think you'll get killed on these - even at $200 but I would offer the guy $150 cash and be prepared to walk away. Several of us on this board would be happy to help you keep looking.

Bottom line - you are going to start off with a set that you are not going to keep. You will either get totally in to playing and want to trade up OR you'll find that you don't really have the interest and want to unload them. Either way, the secret is to look for a deal that allows you to get your money back when you get rid of them and there are PLENTY of deals like that out there. I'm just not sure that these GPs fall into that category at the $200 price point.
