Ok I went to the drum shop today, and I was talking with the seller and he was telling me about that Dave Weckl video about a hand technique that help you play fast, with the fingers or something like that, I think it was the moeller technique, or it sounded something like that... maybe I'm just confused... but if you know what I'm talking about can you please try to explain how it works?

The video was lke 50$, and I'm sure I can learn without spending that much money on a video... hehe... I know I'm a cheap bastard...

so, bart? I guess it's your turn now! hehe

Well ... it's not just about finger technique, although that is certainly an ingredient.

To sum up the Moeller Method, it's based on natural, ergonomic movement of the arms, wrists and fingers ... plus the natural rebound of the stick or "fly backs" as Jim Chapin calls them.

There are four basic strokes:
  • Full
  • Down
  • Tap
  • Up
Any video that you can get on this subject is going to be well worth the money.

Check out the following videos:

Jim Chapin - "Speed, Power, Control, Endurance"
Joe Morello - "The Natural Approach To Technique"

Also check out the March 2002 issue of Modern Drummer Magazine. There is a nice article by John Riley entitled The Moeller Stroke Revealed.

To pick-up the original book that started it all, contact you favorite music store and ask for:

Sanford A. Moeller - "The Moeller Book"
Also look for "The Gene Krupa Drum Method" and "The Ludwig Drum Method" which also go into this same topic.
