On Saturday, I was at my grandma's house with my brother while my parents were on their anniversary trip. There is a Music Unlimited store about 20 minutes from her house. My brother went to check out some guitar stuff, and even bought a book. I went to check out some cymbals, so that I have a selection of cymbals for my next drumkit. They had a very small selection of cymbals, excluding the ones found on the drumkits. I went towards the far end of the department, and there was a tama swingstar there. Guess what? The hi-hats with it had the tama logo on them, and it didn't say who made them. They sound ok to me. Have you guys experienced these yet? I can't find any info on their website.

I know it's not much information but Tama says that they're "German made brass cymbals."  I found the info on Tama's site under the Swingstar drumset section.

Could "german made brass" mean they're made by Meinl?

In the 60's Ludwig priced their drumsets with or without certain Paiste 602s.  In the 70's they offered A Zildjians in the catalog.  In the early 80's Slingerland offered Sabian in their catalogs.

The situation in the quote is much like when companies offer Evans or Remo(Yuck Tongue) heads with their drums. Today, Evans heads are offered on Tama, Spaun, and MRP drums. There may be others, but I'm not sure. Remo heads are offered on Mapex drums. There may be others, but once again, I'm not sure.

But before Paistes were offered in the 60's, didn't Slingerland make their own sticks, hardware, heads, cymbals, etc.? I saw on drummerworld.com a picture of gene krupa(whom I was born in the same town as, as well as in the same month(only 3 days and 80 years apart as well Cheesy)) on his drumkit, and in the corner of the pic, it says "100% Slingerland Equipped". Does that mean 100% of his kit was Slingerland, or that just the shells were 100% Slingerland? Huh Cool

They barely have any info in their 2005 Catalog. All it says is what JayB already said.My guess is they are made maybe by Paiste. It wouldn't shock me to be honest. But in any case they are just made so when your get your first set you don't have to worry about cymbals for a few weeks....Good though, good idea...maybe not the best product. But hey its Tama...they make drums.

You're lucky you are growing up in an era when there are multiple choices among drumhead companies.  However would you have survived as a drummer if your only choice was Remo?  You may have had to take up French Horn or some other instrument.

I don't believe Slingerland ever made their own cymbals.  Nor did Ludwig.

100% Slingerland meant the entire outfit - not just the shells.

Yeah, I don't think too many (if any) drum companies actually make/made their own cymbals.  That's a whole different world.

Maybe those "German made cymbals" are made by Camber?  Or some other similar company.

I actually think it would be kinda cool to have matching cymbal logos with your drums... you don't see that much.  If your going to have to have a lousy company logo, they might as well match right???!!!

man, if could score that 80's swingstar kit and get tama "german made" brass (frightens me actually) that might be kinda neato

I own a set of Paiste Duo Tone brass hats, made in Germany.

So Arch Angel might be spot on.

In the latest catalog from Musician's Friend, I believe it says in the description that the Swingstar comes with Meinl-made cymbals.
