In the symphonic band at my school, we are playing a song called "Disney at the Oscars" and in it I play the following instruments: Triangle, Medium Triangle, Crash Cymbals, Bongos, Cowbell, Tympani, and Tambourine. A couple of those, such as the triangle and the tambourine, are played at the same time. For example, at the end of the part of the song "Chim-chim-cheree"(from the Movie "Mary Poppins"), there is a triangle and tambourine roll going on at the same time. Otherwise, it is just one at a time. For tympani and bongos, I only play a couple of small parts.

Back when I was young(er) I played with the CYO Concert Band.  We did a lot of pieces by Vaclav Nelhybel in contests.  Many of Nelhybel's compositions feature busy percussion sections.  We often traded off the drum parts until each member of the percussion section settled into the bet fit for a particular piece.  The details have faded, but I remember being busier than a one-legged man in an a$$ kicking contest while we sorted out who should play what on "Two Symphonic Movements".  After dabbling on all the other parts I ended up playing tympani.

There's a piece called "Incantation and Dance" by John Barnes Chance that is written for 4 or 5 percussionists.  My HS only had 3 so we covered a LOT of parts--Timbales, toms, temple blocks SD, etc.

In college, many multiple-percussion and percussion ensemble pieces required sevarl instruments be played by one player.

I play percussion in one band I'm in - have been doing that for a year or so now.  It is a lot of fun getting out from behind the set.

In High School Concert band I love playing the chimes in a couple of song we played.  Those were the big long ones that sounded like Church bells and hit with the rawhide mallet.

I had a similar experience in College. The director was tired of hearing complaints from the percussin section and counting rests for 80 measures and then rolling at the end, so he decided to find pieces that had more exciting parts for the drummers. The quarter that he began it though, only 3 drummers were in the section. One guy handled timpani and all the melodics and me and another guy handled everything else. It was a bit like the Keystone Cops but we eventually pulled it off.

does my Roland SPD-S count as only one or do I get to count all the different instruments I have recorded onto it?
