I am trying to figure out the name of this pecussion instrument and i will do my best here to explain what it is.

The instrument is a pitch changing instrument that seems to be created by the rubbing of the surface of the drum. I have only heard the intrument in recordings like Paul Simons Graceland Album.

I hope someone can help me figure this mystery out. THanks!

Go to a major music site. Search under LP, Toca, Meinl, Remo, Mountain Rhythm, and all other percussion brands. If that doesn't help, go to a store and look in person, or special order one if possible. If no luck, search for it on google. Good luck.

Maybe someone has already answered you, but it's called a cuica, that's in Brazilian Portuguese. There's a stick attached to the head, which you rub with a damp cloth while pressing the head to change pitch.
