I know it was built in 2002 and it's a 6x10. Is it a collectors series? Is it a good snare? Was paying $200 for it too much?

It looks like a mexican made badge dw to me from the pic.

If you like the drum then no amount is too much.  I have no idea if it's a "good snare" as a secondary snare it would be alright... as a main snare?  No way.

I bought a 7x12 snare as secondary custom snare for 550 exactly the way I wanted it- the 10's were in the 4's I think:

I just got it on ebay and have not revceived it yet, so I don't know how it sounds. It will be my secondary snare, my neighbor use to have a pork pie and I loved it. I love playing trip hop and fusion beats so that's why I got it. It was a total impulse buy and I am excited to recieve it, I was just hoping someone has played one and will make me feel better about my decision I guess.

looks like the DW Pacific model snare to me. can't see the badge well enough. If it is DW pacific maple they run a range from 125 to 180 approx  + tax ship etc. for a all maple w/ bracket snare.
If it is a model PCF 805 snare around $100 or so .

I am pretty sure it's not a pacific because it was made in 2002, correct me if I am wrong but I don't think they made these back then. The badge says "drum workshop" on it which is kind of odd because everyother drum I have seen that they make all say "DW".

Not a Pacific because it has the circular tension rod mounts, pacifics have an oval mount shape.  Should be a really nice secondary snare with a nice crack, keep us posted on how it turns out.  Can't go wrong with D-dubbs snares.

I am not a hundred percent on this, but before they made pacific they had this line called "workshop series" it was replaced by pacific had the dw badges but also it had the pacific oval lugs, this could be one of the last of the workshop series. Call DW they should be able to help you. Its not a pacific and I'd say 200 isn't too much. I paid 140 for my Pork Pie little squealer and that thing isn't even really a pork pie its made in orient.

Yep definately a Workshop snare. I have also seen them referred to as WackyWorkshop snares. I'm not sure if they were given that name by DW or by the shops. They came only in 10 x 6 and in loads of outlandish colours

550 is the list price im sure, guitar center usually does 42% off list 50 % off list is a good deal to me. So lets see, you'd probably be able to get a 10x6 dw for between 250-300. Ok deal not great I wouldn't of paid 200. Theres a 10x6 pork pie snare at my guitar center with a crack in the wrap going for 80 bucks. Just my oppinion though it really depends on how much you like it. Im sure the price they gave you was refering to the collectors series so if this isn't a collectors series then its up in the air.

Basicially if its a collectors series 200 was a pretty good deal, if its in very good condition, if its anything under a collectors series you over paid. But once again it whats worth it to you. I've over paid on things before yah it kinda sucks but I love the eqiupment so I don't sweat it. For example I just bought an 18" zildjian 1970's medium thin crash for 47 bucks, but there have ben times I've just embarssed myself. My advice to you is know your market, study whats going for what it will help you in the long run.

Well in the auction (I got it on ebay) he said it was a collectors series but I don't believe anything on ebay until I find info about it elsewhere. This drum drove me crazy for two days because I could not find a ounce of information about it, like I said earlier all DW could tell me was the retail price and this was after I told them when it was made and the number on the drum.  They couldn't even tell me what model it was.

I do believe it is in great condition though(I still have yet to receive it) because it still has the original head on it and it looks brand new, the guy said he only played it a couple of times.

Regardless I can't wait till I get it and I'll make sure you all know how it sounds.

Dude if he said its a collectors series it probably is. I mean it looks like one, like I said DW made a series called "work shop" that was kind of a cheaper one but those had the pdp style lugs. This is probably a colectors series. Hey you could always file a misadvertising claim if its not. If its a collectors series thats a kick ass freaking drum, I like 12's basically because I feel the 10x6 is a bit too dry but in general thats ann awsome affect snare.

It is definately a DW Workshop snare. I can even find a link to a shop selling identical snares as DW Wacky workshop snares.

http://www.birminghamdrumcentre.co.uk/category.asp?Direction=Next&category=11&subcategory=130

There are 2 snares like that on that page both with the same badges, lugs, size, one even has the same finish. (They are on page 3 of the DW snares on the site)
