yeah, yeah; still pulling the late nites at work.

i've actually adapted to the schedule [more or less], but what i can't break out of is my decline into crappy food choices.

i don't even really have an excuse, coz there are a zillion healthy options available. but it seems whenever i'm busy and stressing, i just crave all the wrong foods. wrong not just coz they're fattening, but coz they give me no energy.

i just inhaled an egg mcmuffin, hash brown and chocolate chip cookie. i was craving comfort at all levels. it was great during the moment, but now i feel like hurling.

i can see i'd be seriously challenged if i actually did anything in the way of touring. if there's ever a time when you need to be healthy, it's then.

so what do you touring or heavy-gigging types do to keep your diet sane on the road? i imagine lots of trail mix. do you keep your own cooler, too?

I guess misery loves company,, so I'll join in with frustrations of being busier than fricken all get out..  Roll Eyes

My problem isn't the choices as much as the quantity.. I'm eating more since I'm more stressed,, and totally quit working out... Feeling ever more out of shape, and hating it...  Tongue

But, the upside, is that they love me at the job!

Yeah I had the same problem a couple weeks ago -- crappy food, weird sleep schedules, long hours at work, no going to the gym like normal... it sucked.

I just sucked it up and went back to the gym and started running again. It only took a couple of days after a month or so of not going to get back to my normal 3-mile run and upper body workout regimen. Now if I can just keep it up between playing, working, going to school, running my consulting "on the side" work I do... eek...

But man, hang in there... eat right, that's where it starts. I eat salads, soup and sandwitch for lunch. The biggest thing for me is breakfast... EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST. No meat! Eat cereal, lots of fruit, some bread if you want, and some more fruit. It's amazing how that changes your day. Also, drink lots of water, I go through about 4 liters/day now (yeah, that's alot I know). You feel better, just do it...

Good luck man... I know how you feel, I was there just a few weeks ago... hang in there, and drum on :-)

Yeah, exercise.  I try to get at least 15 minutes in a day, even if I just get out of my office and walk around the neighborhood for 15, ya know?

Second the breakfast, as well.  I used to never eat breakfast, and found myself eating 1500 calories at lunch!!  Now, I have some yogurt and cereal in the AM before the commute and I'm good.  Lunch is much more controlled.  I'm under 1000 calories total after lunch.  Lately, I get home after 8PM.  My problem is eating a pile of junk at 11PM, before going to bed.  You know, cookies, ice cream, chips etc.  I have asked my wife to stop buying them, but then I stop on the way home because I know the house is sans snacks!!  It's a vicious cycle.

The techniques, though they play an important role in the early stage, should not be too restrictive, complex or mechanical. If we cling to them, we will become bound by their limitation.  Any technique, however worthy and desirable, becomes a disease when the mind is obsessed with it.

i'm in the final phase of my weight loss [it's taken me forever, partly coz i fell off the wagon] and have chosen to write off cookies and cakey stuff. they are my absolute weakness, and the one food i just do not have control over. it's terrible; like an addiction. i just can't eat one chocolate chip cookie. so i've banned these items from the house.

now when i get the sugar urge, i bite off a small piece of dark chocolate. it satisfies the craving but doesn't make me feel bloated, or cranky an hour later. maybe one day i'll have the restraint to eat one cookie, but i kinda doubt it.

i agree that breakfast is key. it stabilizes your food cravings and energy level. today i had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but usually i go for the yogurt and fruit, or cereal or oatmeal.

i'm never going to let myself get so fat again. this has been a really difficult thing to deal with, especially since it's harder to lose weight as you get older, and fit exercise into a busy schedule.

You only have to be better than you were yesterday

I know this doesn't really apply to the "busy" people but I've found MAKING your own food is a great thing to do.  That way you don't get all the preservatives and such of other foods.  I'm making my own breads now (with the help of a breadmaker), I've replaced silly cookie or cracker snacks with fruit (usually an apple).  Soups/salad and sandwich for lunch....baby carrots instead of chips....Oh, and I cut SODA completely out.  And coffee is a once a month thing.   Tea is my drink of choice now.  More antioxidents and just generally healthier.  More variety, too.

I think it's just all the little things.  Now my problem is just eating LESS of all that....or working out more...or both...

EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST. No meat!

Why not??  Not to get sidetracked into a meat discussion, but if one DOES eat meat, then I believe they would want to eat it at BREAKFAST, rather than at any other meal.
