During 20 odd years of recording I've rarely been presented with a chart.
I usually write my own cheat sheets however (time being of the essence), which are very similar to normal drum notation.

Same here. While I've read lots of charts on show gigs (big Vegas-style production numbers), in the studio I've always written my own charts. It speeds up the process, and doesn't depend on my memory to pull off an error-free take.

Do they even consider teaching a class in analog recording anymore?  They have a 2" tape machine here at Tri C (cleveland school that has a pretty nice recording class and setup) but I think it was an elective for the more advanced students.
